Dear Parents,

As the Headteacher of St Mary's Fields, it is a pleasure to introduce this thriving Infant School to you. The school is full of life and looking forward to the future with energy and enthusiasm.

St Mary's Fields is an infant school with 200 children aged between 3 and 7 years old. There are four classes in the Infant department and three classes in the Early Years Department.

Children are admitted in the academic year they are four, on a part time basis and become full time during the academic year in which they are five years of age.

St Mary's Fields is situated in the Rowley Fields area of Leicester. Most pupils come from the surrounding urban area which consists of a mixture of privately owned houses and rented homes. Some children travel from outside the surrounding area and attend the school out of parental choice. The proportion of pupils from ethnic minority backgrounds is much higher than most schools.

We are committed to raising educational achievements and standards in a welcoming, caring and safe environment.

St Mary's Fields Infant School Aims

- To provide a welcoming and caring environment for everyone in our school.

- To develop a co-operative working partnership between all staff, children, parents and governors.

- To foster children's self-esteem through enjoyment, praise and success.

- To provide opportunities for spiritual, moral, social and cultural education.

- To develop learning through purposeful play and talk.

- To provide equal opportunities for all.

- To enable every child to achieve their potential through a broad, balanced interesting curriculum including the requirements of the National Curriculum.

- To provide a challenging and rewarding curriculum, relevant to each child's needs.

- To enable each child to leave our school as an independent, self-motivated, caring seven year old.

We review our School Aims at the beginning of every summer term when Staff and Governors produce the School Improvement Plan - the key document for school improvement.

We promote high achievement and learning for life by providing opportunities to

- Experience moral, spiritual, social and cultural education.

- Develop learning through structured play and language.

- Achieve their full potential through a challenging, broad balanced and creative curriculum.

Our Ofsted Inspection in April 2010 confirmed that St Mary’s Fields is a good school with many outstanding features! The inspectors were very impressed by the exciting, interesting and well planned curriculum, the good to outstanding teaching, the very good behaviour of the children, the strong governing body, the supportive parents and carers and the school’s highly inclusive, supportive atmosphere.
